Difference of Carbon Fiber and Active Carbon Fiber

Carbon fiber and active carbon fiber (ACF) had been widely applied to new-type and high-performance industry material fields in recent years. They have extremely similarity in appearance and raw materials, here we clarify the mainly difference:

1.   Difference in structure, after X-ray irradiation, we can find carbon fiber are existing in the way of chaotic layer graphite structure. At present, there are 3 basic structures in the transitional carbon: chaotic layer graphite, amorphous carbon and highly ordered super-atomic structure. ACF belongs to microcrystalline carbon series which is made of graphite like microcrystals, single grid planar carbon and disordered carbon. But graphite microcrystalline is the mainly part of ACF.

2.   Difference in manufacture technology. Carbon fiber manufacture technology: raw material monomer becomes to raw fiber after polymerization, furtherly becomes to filaments after pre-oxidization, finally becomes to carbon fiber after carbonization. ACF technology: raw material monomer becomes to carbonizable fiber after pre-treatment, then becomes to carbon fiber after carbonization, finally becomes to ACF after activation.  

3.   Difference in application: carbon fiber has features of high strength, high modulus, light weight and anti-erosion resistance, so it can be applied to aviation, sports apparatus, new energy and other fields.
